the clear theme in the works of thomas riess is the human being. is it?
the concept of painting alone quickly pushes one to one's limits and one realises that a clear positioning of the artist in this way does not work and that the theme of figure or human being does not describe everything that is transported by his painting. the mere fact that an artist deals so vehemently with deep-sea divers and astronauts suggests that the viewer is asked to leave familiar terrain in order to venture into the precarious relationship between perception, reality and interpretation of the same.
