Jupp Linssen (born in 1957 in Kempen/Germany) hast been working as an artist since his graduation from Rheinischen-Westfälischen Technischen Hochschule in Aachen/Germany in 1986 and from 1987 onward teaching painting at the art school of Düsseldorf.
Jupp Linssen is layering material in broken rhythyms, creating light and airy volumes out of not so arty every day parts, thus disavowing the academic tradition of art.
To Jupp Linssen, the beauty of form is not important; the painting does not need to be restrained to it’s canvas, surfaces can stay unpolished, material is not necessarily new.
His installations are about credibility and therefore don’t hide the process of their creation.
It’s about evoking memories, playing with romantic elements and pragmatic needs alike.
Linssen’s goal is to make art a part of reality and not the other way around.
Truthfulness and candor are supposed to be real parts of those informal works, with the artist working hard to dismiss the common jugdements against abstract art of being precocious, of knowing everything just because it could be anything.
It’s not about expecting the viewers to « get it » - it’s about earning it.
